Dual Coding Theory

According to dual code theory, hypothesized by Allan Paivio in 1971, people perceive verbal and nonverbal stimuli through their sensory systems (eyes and ears). From here the information is passed into the verbal and nonverbal associative systems, which work independently or together to produce verbal and nonverbal responses.
