Experiental learning theory (ELT) defines learning as a process of acquiring knowledge through the transformation of experience. Four different types of learner can be distinguished: convergers, who gain knowledge by abstract conceptualization and active experimentation; divergers, who use concrete experience and reflective observation; assimilators, who tend to learn by abstract conceptualization and reflective observation; and accommodators, who prefer learning by concrete experiences and active experimentation. The theory was popularized by David Kolb, and is largely based on the work of Kurt Lewin, John Dewey and Jean Piaget.

Dr. Giulio Tononi presents his integrated information theory of consciousness. A system with a particular combination of high differentiation with high integration in its connectivity will exhibit dynamics with a large value of PHI (level of integrated information). This happens to be the connectivity allowing for maximal information integration. This video dates from the university of Wisconsin, circa 2007.

The five stages of grief, is a stage theory formulated by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, describing stages that people experience when facing their own death. The stages are denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance (1).

Since proposing her theory, psychologists have observed that not all terminally ill people will necessarily experience these stages, and age, situation and cultural context seem to play an important role. The theory may be best applicable to people facing death at a young age (2).
