Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) was an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist, and the founder and developer of psychoanalysis. He is known for his theories of childhood sexuality and development, his division of the human psyche into three parts (id, ego, superego), as well as his approach to unveiling unconscious conflicts using free association and studying dreams and fantasies.
