Linguistic Encoding

Linguistic encoding can be subdivided into two successive stages:

– grammatical encoding, which is the usage of a verb, a subject, an object in a specific word order; this delivers the language specific surface form in terms of a functional representation, which can then undergo phonetic planning.

– phonetic planning, which is the process that successfully translates the segments of fragments of the surface form into a representation that will eventually be used by the articulator.
