Yerkes-Dodson Law

The Yerkes-Dodson law is a proposition that people perform best at intermediate levels of arousal, and that performance is lower at high or low levels of arousal. This relationship is commonly illustrated with a u-curve. The concept was originally developed by psychologists Robert M. Yerkes and John Dillingham Dodson in the early 1900s.
